SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 8th CWMBWRLA PARK 10.30
PLOUGH COLTS 6 v 1 YNYSTAWE
The first match of the 2007/2008 saw Plough entertain Ynystawe. Plough sarted strongly and got an
early reward when new signing Connor Walsh used his pace to get in behind the defence and beat the keeper at his near
post. This was soon followed with a second when Nathan Davies chipped the keeper with a fine chip. Plough stretched their
lead further with a second goal for Connor Walsh. At this stage Plough were well on top but got caught just before
half time when the midfield had a sleepy moment and Mathew Whiten finished well for Ynystawe.
The second half saw Plough extend their lead further when Daniel Martin finshed with style. This
was followed with a 5th goal for Plough when Jamie Mayne struck home. Amention must be made for Ryan Hopkins who controlled
the back line for Plough and keeper Rhys Cole who had little to do but was quick off his line when needed. Plough
rounded off an excellent start to the season with a sixth goal scored by Craig Lewis.
It was very pleasing to see good support for the team on the line.
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 29th MYNYDD NEWYDD 10.30
PLOUGH COLTS 1 v 7 BIRCHGROVE
Birchgrove took the lead in this match within five minutes of the start with Plough caught cold. Plough
equalised shortly after with a well finished goal for Daniel Martin. Back came Birchgrove to take the lead minutes later.
This was soon followed by a third. Plough seemed to have left their football heads in the dressing room and had no answer
to Birchgrove as they increased their goal count to seven before half time. The second half saw Plough slightly improve their
game and had a chance to add a second goal when Connor Walsh was brought down in the area and a penalty was the award. Nathan
Davies took the spot kick but was saved by the keeper. The match continued with both teams having chances of more goals but
the keepers came out on top on each occasion. Plough did not concede any more goals before the final whistle but this had
been something of a horror show as far as they were concerned and certainly a game to put behind them and forget. All credit
must go to Birchgrove who won the match convincingly simply because they were quicker to every ball and showed much more commitment
and determination.
SATURDAY OCTOBER 13TH MYNYDD NEWYDD
LEAGUE CUP
PLOUGH COLTS 2 v 1 YNYSTAWE
Plough were well on top early on in this cup match and had several chances to take the lead but could
not find the net. Midway through the first half Ynystawe were awarded a penalty after aa clash in the area. Fortunately for
Plough the penalty kick went wide of the post. the half ended goalles. The second half was much the same as the first with
Plough creating plenty of chances but Ynystawe took the lead against the run of play when their striker beat the Plough defence
and finished well. Plough were forced to make changes and went three in defence to give more attacking threat. This payed
off when Brad Flipping equalised. plough continued to attack and got their reward when Dominic D'Auria slotted the ball home
to give the home side the lead. Plough kept control of the game but did have a scare with a minute to go when Ynystawe were
awarded a free kick on the edge of the area. The kick was taken and saved but the referee decided that it had to be retaken.
The second kick beat the wall but was well held by keeper Rhys Cole which resulted in victory for Plough in this first round
cup tie.
SATURDAY 20th OCTOBER TIRCANOL 10.30
MORRISTON 4 v 2 PLOUGH COLTS
The match was a pretty even afair in the first quarter but Plough broke through and took the lead
when B.J.Berry finished well. Morriston disrupted the play with a dangerous tackle on a Plough midfield player which the referee
did not deal with very well and from this point the standard of play deteriorated. Morriston equalised just before the break.
The second half saw Morriston take the lead after the Plough defence stepped out leaving two Morriston players well offside
but the referee awarded the goal. Frustrations were showing in the Plough team and again the referee failed to deal with several
incidents of dissent by Morriston. Morriston added two further goals with Plough getting a consolation goal for Dan Martin
late on to end a very disapointing match which was very much marred by poor refereeing.
SATURDAY 27th OCTOBER LLANDOVERY 10.30
LLANDOVERY JUNIORS 6 v 2 PLOUGH COLTS
Llandovery started the better in this Tesco Cup match and within 5 minutes took the lead. This was
soon followed with a second with a good move from midfield catching Plough out. Plough did respond and were unlucky on two
occasions when they beat the keeper only to see both attempts cleared off the line. Just before the half time whistle Llandovery
extended their lead to 3.
Plough did approach the second half with a more positive attitude and got rewarded when Connor Walsh
beat the offside trap and finished well. However Plough got caught napping and payed the price when Llandovery got a fourth
goal. A few Plough heads had started to drop and especially so when Lladovery got a fifth. However some of the Plough lads
were still battling and Jamie Mayne got his reward when he went on a run down the wing, cut inside and smashed the ball into
the roof of the net for the best goal of the match. Llandovery followed this by scoring their sixth and the games final goal
to see them progress to the next round.
Plough wish to than Llandovery for their hospitality following the match and wish them well in the
next round.
